Angle cock leakage.

Two loco had recently failed due to angle cock leakage. Sheds are advised to audit their maintenance practices to arrest such case.

Action required to be taken-

1.    Only new (less than one year old) lab tested air brake kit should be used.
2.    All old released and failed kits should be examined for reasons of failures (manufacturing defects or fitment defects). Analysis of such failed or released kits in last one year should be sent.
·     In case of manufacturing defect, matter should be reported to HQ and OEM for improvement in product quality and warranty replacement.
·     Staff training should be organised to eliminate such bad workmanship cases.

3.      Testing-
·        All angle cocks should be hydraulically tested to check air leakage.
·        Multiple operations of BP & FP angle cocks should be done even if leakage is observed in one operation, angle cock shock be dismantled and condition of roller pathway should be checked.
All such housings should be scrapped.

4.      Overhauling-

·        Periodicity of overhauling should be M8 for ALCO and 270 days for HHP. It should be increased to M12 (360 days) after established proven performance and fully arresting line and shed failures.
