Implementation of Mind Management and
formation of staff care group at work place.
Mechanical
department plays a key role in running of freight and coaching services in Railways.The job of maintenance, overhauling
of rolling stock and running of trains is achieved by a huge team of artisans,
khalasis and crew led by officers and supervisors working in different field
units.
Effectiveness
of our workforce can increase manifolds, if positive working environment and
their passionate involvement in work can be ensured. Costly assets, majestic
infrastructure, state of the art M&P, latest rolling stock alone do not
make any organisation great. It is the camaraderie, workplace chemistry,
commitment and attitude to work that makes a workplace great.
Implementation of mind management philosophy and formation of staff
care groups at workplace will play a major role in achieving above objective.
Mind management
is the philosophy, which promotes a positive outlook to life and work, removes
negativity and helps each person to discover & utilise huge untapped latent
capacity. Each person rises beyond call of duty and walks the extra crucial
mile. He becomes a role model, nucleus of positivity and inspiration for
others. He acquires a “can do” attitude and the attitudinal change becomes
infectious; setting cascading effects.
Great work in
transforming lives of large number of maintenance staffs in a Diesel Shed has
been done.
A number of staff, who were in clutches of
loan mafia, alcoholism, drug could be salvaged by staff care group. These
vices, terror tactics of moneylenders and payment of exorbitant interest on
small loans had destroyed many a lives and families. Such staffs had lost all
hopes from life and were living marginalized inhuman existence unable to do
their assigned duties. Even daily coming to workplace was a Herculean task for
most of them.

unfortunately unfolds at all major work units in Railways with unerring
precision.
Sr DMEs and CWMs
as leaders of workforces at divisions and workshops are uniquely placed to
usher in this revolution and positively influence their lives by providing a
facilitating environment.
It is requested
to start staff care group(s) at all workplaces by co-opting volunteers, who are
willing to make positive changes in lives of others. Small daily sessions on
mind management philosophy may be arranged as part of daily on job training
schedule. Write up enclosed.
You will agree
that Quality of our live is sum of quality of our contributions, when we work
to improve the lives of others we indirectly elevate our own life in the
process.
Few things
energise the human spirit more than desire to make a difference in the lives of
others. “Even the smallest act of caring for another person may appear like a
drop of water but it will make ripples throughout the entire organisation.”
I have personally
seen improvement in interpersonal relations, reduction in friction at workplace
and decrease in blame game, during my experiments with mind management
philosophy at work.
Unnecessary
argument in shop floor, looking for alibi and saying no without giving any new
idea a fair chance consume too much time and energy of managers. At the end of
day, he has little energy left to pursue innovation and development after
fighting protracted battle against wall of negativity.
It will help us
to address issues of lack of trust, cynicism, lack of faith and lack of
motivation at workplace. Only then, meaningful contributions will take place at
shop floor. Reliability, efficiency and out turn will automatically follow.
